Millikan’s Anthony League put up impressive numbers this season and cemented himself as one of the best running backs in the CIF Southern-Section.
Aside from being a top running back in the area, League’s standout performance also etched himself into Millikan history. Through four games, League had already run for 620 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground in the 2024 season. He finished the year rushing for 1,546 yards and 22 touchdowns. League also caught 14 passes for 379 yards and four touchdowns in 2024.
“He’s a coach’s dream,” said Pellum. “That’s why us as coaches named him captain. We’ve never done that since I’ve been at Millikan, but I haven’t had a player like him since I’ve been at Millikan. He checks every single box. He shows up early, he works hard, he wins every sprint, he goes hard in the weight room, he leads by example, and he has a 3.9 GPA. You don’t find kids like that. Cal’s getting a good one.”
Before transferring to Millikan for his senior season, League ran for 1,694 yards and 20 touchdowns at Los Al from 2021-23. But his impact in the Moore League was out of this world.
League was a huge part of Millikan’s massive success in 2024, which saw the Rams go 8-3 overall and undefeated in the Moore League.
This record included a historic win over Long Beach Poly on Oct. 11, snapping the Jackrabbits’ 15-year 81-game Moore League winning streak. League carried the ball 27 times for 258 yards and four touchdowns to lead his team to Millikan’s first outright Moore League championship since 1973.
His incredible season also earned him All-League honors, as he was named the Player of the Year. League is taking his career to the next level where he will play Division I football at Cal.
