Top 10 Long Beach Sports Moments of the Year: No. 6 Millikan Boys’ Tennis Wins CIF Gold

The Millikan boys’ tennis program made it back to the mountaintop in 2025, winning their second CIF-SS Division 4 title in the last five years. This time it was a narrow 10-8 victory over Villa Park in the finals at the University of Redlands, bringing another tennis title back to Long Beach.

Millikan was able to sweep the singles matches as Eric Carranca, Noah Edwards and Andrew Abelmelek all swept their way to victory, giving the Rams nine points to put them on the cusp of victory.

The decisive duo proved to be Nathan Gomes and Isaac Kim, giving Millikan the 10th point needed to clinch the win.

Villa Park was a worth adversary, having knocked off top-seeded Oxford Academy in round one, but Millikan was on a strong postseason run of their own and were able to survive a tough battle with the Spartans.

Rams head coach Spencer Pozgay helped orchestrated the postseason run with a lineup change going into the postseason, and the players made it happen on the court to finish the season on top.

“There were some changes that needed to be made moving forward,” Millikan coach Spencer Pozgay said. “I moved my doubles guys around and moved my doubles guys to singles. So for all five games for CIF we did run the same exact lineup for all five games.”
