The562 Announces Winners of Inaugural Student Photo Competition

The562 is thrilled to announce the winners of our Inaugural Student Photo Competition, which was open to Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) students in grades 7-12.

The competition was intended to spotlight the talented young photographers in Long Beach, giving them an opportunity to have their work judged by professional photographers, along with The562’s staff and current class of student interns.

Well over 100 students entered this year’s competition, submitting hundreds of photos in four different categories:

  • Sports/Action Photos
  • Feature Photos
  • Artistic/Landscape Photos
  • On-Campus News Photos

Students were able to enter their best photo in each of the four categories, but would only be eligible to win once. There was a winner selected in each category, plus a runner-up and a handful of honorable mention selections.

Winners and runners-up in each category will receive a prize for the work, and a larger prize will be awarded to the winner of the Best Overall Photo in the competition. The first-ever winner of the Best Overall Photo went to the Best Sports/Action Photo, submitted by Diego Perez from Cabrillo High School.
