Stanford Crowned All-City Division 1 Champions Over Bancroft

The Stanford girls’ soccer team picked the perfect time to play their best game of the season as they defeated Bancroft 4-0 to claim the LBUSD All-City Division 1 title Wednesday at Long Beach City College.

“Every coach wants their team’s last game to be their last game,” Stanford coach Hank Waddles said. “And that’s what this was. We played our best game. We were ready.”

While the Hawks claimed the top spot in the city, Kenzie Bedard scored three goals as she took advantage when she had the opportunity.

“We played with our hair on fire,” Waddles said. “Kenzie has scored six goals against Bancroft this season. Three in the regular season and three today.”

While Bancroft scored two goals in the first half, she scored a third in the second half to push the lead to 3-0.

Bedard was also a part of the Hawks’ fourth goal when she connected with Kira Ines on a corner kick to push the lead to 4-0.

Completing the shutout in goal was Stanford’s Madilyn Oxley.

“Such a team effort,” Waddles said. “I could not be more proud of this group.”
