The rivalry between Wilson girls’ lacrosse and Downey High continued this season, with the Bruins and Vikings battling it out once again for Moore League supremacy.
The two teams split their head-to-head meetings this season, but the Bruins were able to claim the top spot to themselves thanks to a 10-9 win by Millikan against Downey on April 8.
Wilson’s 8-7 win at Downey back in March laid the groundwork for their league title, and despite a loss against the Vikings on their Senior Night, the Bruins were able to hold on for the title with an 11-1 league record, going 14-4 overall.
Wilson and Downey are the only schools to win a Moore League girls’ lacrosse championship, with the two teams sharing the honor last season. That makes it two league titles in a row for Wilson, who also won the first ever league title in 2022.
The CIF-SS girls’ lacrosse playoffs are currently underway, with second-round games happening on Thursday.
