Long Beach State Women’s Soccer Falls To Washington

It’s been a challenging start to the season for the Long Beach State soccer team and Thursday night’s 2-0 loss to Washington followed the theme.

“This was a frustrating performance,” Long Beach State coach Mauricio Ingrassia said. “We got to be more clinical in front of the net. We definitely are creating the chances, so that’s encouraging. The other stuff is just the details.”

The Beach (2-3-1) had multiple scoring opportunities in the first half with Liz Worden leading the charge. She created a pair of chances for the first goal but they both were off target. In the sixth minute, her shot went off the crossbar.

Those missed opportunities proved to be costly as Washington’s Kalea Eichenberger connected on a header after a long free kick from Kolo Suliafu to give the Huskies a 1-0 halftime lead.

Washington (3-1-2) didn’t waste any time doubling its lead when Radisson Banks put the Huskies up 2-0 in the 50th minute.

“We put ourselves in a difficult situation,” Ingrassia said. “I thought we played well enough. Maybe not late in the second half but it felt like we had enough to get something in the first half.”

LBSU goalkeeper Aurora Schuck made four saves, and senior Julia Moore had a team-high two shots on goal.

The early gauntlet continues for the Beach when they travel to take on No. 16 Texas on Sunday.
