The562.org’s Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to our final Athletes of the Week of the school year and thanks to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.

HIGH SCHOOL

Ricky Tiedemann, Lakewood Baseball

Recent San Diego State commit and Lakewood ace Ricky Tiedemann won MVP honors at last week’s Kiwanis All Star Baseball Game between the Moore League and the San Gabriel Valley League. Tiedemann pitched and also tied the game with an RBI double.

Rachel Glenn, Wilson Track & Field

Rachel Glenn was the only athlete from Long Beach to win an individual state championship at last weekend’s CIF State Track & Field Finals, easily winning the 300 hurdles crown in her first year competing in the event. Glenn was also second in the high jump.

Kenya Payne, Long Beach Poly Track & Field

USC-bound Kenya Payne wanted to end her career at Long Beach Poly the right way. After false starting in her best event, the 300 hurdles, she said she cried for two days straight. She rebounded in a big way at the CIF State Finals, running a gutsy anchor leg on the 4×400 to lead her team to a state title in the last race of the year.

COLLEGE

Raleigh Adams, Long Beach State Track & Field

Raleigh Adams broke a 47-year old school record by running a 13.59 in the 110m hurdles Friday in the NCAA Prelims and then went on to advance to Austin for the Finals by finishing fourth on Saturday.
