CIF Volleyball: St. Anthony Sweeps, Moore League Eliminated

It was a tough day for fans of Long Beach high school boys’ volleyball, as the entire Moore League was eliminated in the first round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs. The silver lining was St. Anthony–the Saints are seeded No. 2 in Division 4 and they looked ready to make a championship push on Tuesday.

St. Anthony def. California 3-0

The Saints won their opener against California in speedy fashion, sweeping 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.

Aidan Grosz had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Brandon Barry hadded 10 kills. Jakob Aguilar led the offense with 27 assists. St. Anthony will travel to Campbell Hall on Thursday for a second round match.

Division 2

Dana Hills def. Lakewood 3-1

Things didn’t go well for the Moore League champions at home, as they dropped the first two sets, fought off elimination for one frame, then succumbed in the fourth, falling 25-19, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20.

Mission Viejo def. Wilson 3-0

The Diablos were too much for the Bruins on the road as Wilson fell 25-23, 25-13, 25-19.

Division 3

Capistrano Valley def. Long Beach Poly 3-2

Long Beach Poly put up a great fight on the road against the No. 2 seed in Division 3 but fell in five sets.

Foothill def. Millikan 3-0

The Rams season came to an end on the road against Foothill, as Millikan fell 28-26, 25-18, 25-18.
