CIF Boys’ Soccer: Wilson Wins In PKs Again At Mira Costa

There is no doubt that Wilson boys’ soccer team is having a magical season. The Bruins won their first Moore League title in 12 years, and have won both of their CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoff games in penalty kick shootouts this week.

After 100 scoreless minutes at Mira Costa on Saturday, Wilson advanced to the quarterfinals by winning the PK shootout 4-3 thanks to a pair of saves from goalkeeper Norman Chang. The second stop came on the fourth and final shot attempt. Wilson beat Katella on Thursday in a shootout.

Wilson will visit Mater Dei on Wednesday for the quarterfinal round. It will be the first quarterfinal for the Bruins since 2007.

Mira Costa (19-0-3) came into the second round game without a loss, and finished the season ranked No. 3 in the division, but Wilson played the hosts even for most of regulation.

Junior Jared Dissman, sophomore Danny Cervantes, freshman Anthony Garcia and senior captain Javi Cervantes made their PKs to get Wilson to the next round.
