PREVIEW: Long Beach Poly at Compton Boys’ Basketball

The big day is finally here. If someone is going to dethrone nine-time defending Moore League champion Long Beach Poly, it’s likely to be Compton. Thursday night, the Tarbabes host the Jackrabbits at 6:30 p.m. in a game that’s sure to be well-attended with an electric atmosphere.

Compton fans have been expressing confidence in their ability to beat Poly all year, and they’ll get a chance to prove it. Giving Compton a potential edge is the presence of post players like Jabari Steward, a major size advantage over Poly’s five-guard lineup.

The Jackrabbits will be better equipped for Compton’s post presence when the teams meet again in January, with Solomon and Ben Jones, and Jeremiah Atkinson eligible to play. Tonight they’ll need to rely on the length of their guards to keep Reggie Trimble out of the paint, limiting Steward’s offensive rebounding ability.

The Jackrabbits don’t have a true post player on the floor right now, but the backcourt of Malik Salahuddin, Justin Rene, and Giordan Williams is much taller than the average HS set of guards, something the Jackrabbits will look to use to their advantage defensively.

We’ll have live updates from the game as well as a video highlight, article, and photo gallery.
