Long Beach Sports Calendar Dec. 12-16

Find out where your favorite Long Beach teams are playing this week.

WEDNESDAY

High School Basketball, 5 & 6:30 p.m.

The Moore League girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are opening the league schedule this week, and the marquee matchups are at Millikan today where the Rams are hosting Compton. In other action, Wilson is at Jordan.

THURSDAY

High School Girls’ Soccer, 3 p.m.

Defending Moore League champion Wilson is enjoying the bye while the other top three teams in the league hit the road. Poly is visiting Jordan while Millikan travels to Cabrillo and Lakewood goes to Compton. Wilson and Poly will renew their rivalry next Tuesday at Wilson.

High School Wrestling, 5 p.m.

The second day of league action has the defending league champion Millikan hosting Poly in the marquee matchup. In other action, Wilson is hosting Lakewood while Cabrillo takes on the team from Jordan and Compton at Compton.

FRIDAY

High School Boys’ Soccer, 3 p.m.

After a schedule change there are only two Moore League games today as Cabrillo hosts Lakewood and Poly travels to Jordan.

Long Beach City College Basketball vs. Mt. San Antonio, 7 p.m.

The Vikings (9-2) had their four-game winning streak snapped at home last week, and will stay at the Hall of Champions Gym this weekend to host Mt. SAC. Freshman Jace Bass leads LBCC with 18.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this season.

Long Beach State Women’s Basketball at Loyola Marymount, 7 p.m.

The 49ers are back on the road for a short trip to Los Angeles to take on LMU. The Lions (6-2) already have wins over UCLA, Arizona and three Big West teams. LMU sophomore and Long Beach Poly alum Jasmine Jones is averaging 11.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

SATURDAY

High School Basketball

The Long Beach Poly boys’ basketball team is playing three games as part of the Bosco/Gahr Classic, and today is the third and final day of the tournament. The Jackrabbits also will participate in the King Cotton Holiday Classic, the Take Flight Challenge and the Westchester Classic this season.

SUNDAY

Long Beach State Women’s Basketball vs. Grand Canyon, 4 p.m.

The Beach is back at Walter Pyramid for a winnable game. Grand Canyon (2-5) hasn’t won a road game this season, and lost to UC Santa Barbara 66-55 last week. LBSU won this matchup 65-63 in Arizona last year. In that game, Ma’Qhi Berry dished out a career-high seven assists for the Beach.
