Basketball: St. Anthony Wins Big Against Wilson

In a non-league clash between two quality Long Beach squads, St. Anthony won big against Wilson, 80-34.

The Saints were led by 29 points from Kali Murrell, half of the Murrell-twin backcourt combo that coach Ray Bennett hopes will power his team to a quality season in Division 1.

“Kali can really shoot it, as you see,” he said. “We’re not very big, but we’re going to run and get after it.”

Camryn Morris had 16 points for the Saints.

The highly-anticipated matchup was dampened with a significant injury for Wilson, which lost freshman baller Sydney Ross early in the game to an ankle injury.

“They competed the whole game and that’s all I ask them to do,” said Wilson coach Erin Carey, who was already down one guard coming into the game. “Obviously with the injury it’s tough, but I’m proud of how they competed.”

The Bruins were led by 18 points from junior Samiya Terry.

Wilson (0-2) will be competing in the Valley Christian Tournament next week while St. Anthony (5-1) will be in the Ocean View Tournament.
