CIF Volleyball: Avalon Moves On With Five-Set Win

The Avalon Lancers will be in the Division 9 quarterfinals on Wednesday after a five-set thriller against Hesperia Christian, 22-25,19-25 25-4, 25-13 and 15-13.

The Lancers dropped the first two sets but pulled off the reverse sweep to survive and advance. Stephanie Martinez served 6 aces in a huge service run in the dominant third set.

Senior Jasmine Reyes had 15 kills and freshman Virginia Soto had 10.

Yuliana Vega led the team with 22 digs while Stephanie Martinez had 13, Jasmine Reyes had 11, and Soto had 10.

Alana Moreno had 8 aces and Martinez finished with 11. Soto had 39 assists in the win.

The Lancers host top-seeded Orange Vista on Wednesday looking to pull an upset and keep their magical run going.
