Congrats to our college athletes of the week and thanks to Naples Rib Company for their sponsorship.

Ashley Gonzales, Long Beach State Soccer

Long Beach State wasn’t thrilled with its 2-2 tie with LMU on Saturday evening, but senior Ashley Gonzales ended up making history anyway. The 49ers had a 2-0 lead a half hour into the game but ended up tied 2-2 at the end of overtime. Gonzales made history in the sixth minute with a goal, the 33rd of her career at LBSU–putting her in a tie for most career goals in school history.

Tyler Spriggs, Long Beach State Volleyball

It was an up and down week for Long Beach State but they’re up in the standings after a pair of wins to start Big West play. Long Beach swept Riverside and beat CSUN in five sets to start off 2-0. Tyler Spriggs, a senior grad transfer, was a big motor offensively and defensively; she had a team-high 22 kills on the week along with 17 digs, hitting over .310 in both matches.
